A Letter to Parents from Mr. Maines

A Letter to Parents from Mr. Maines Regarding A.L.I.C.E.
Posted on 10/05/2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am sending this letter to inform you of the Douglas Public Schools plan to update our present lockdown protocols by incorporating the A.L.I.C.E. system as part of our enhanced lockdown procedures. A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for the five (5) steps used to increase student safety in the case of an attack within a school. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.

The Douglas Public School administrators, along with the Douglas Police Department, will be meeting with all school staff on October 6, 2017, a scheduled full professional development day, to review our current security procedures and to formally introduce the A.L.I.C.E. program. The goal is to train our staff in this program which will provide our schools with a more comprehensive and complete set of safety protocols. We will spend the better part of the day in direct training, engaging staff in interactive simulation activities. This training will allow our staff to be actively involved in implementing these inclusive safety protocols within the school setting.

The school district will then conduct an informational night for our parents and guardians, which will focus exclusively on these enhanced lockdown procedures. We invite and encourage you to attend this informational night that will be held in the Douglas High School auditorium on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at 6 PM. The school administration and the Douglas Police Department will present an overview of the A.L.I.C.E program and the additions to our safety protocols. We hope that you can attend this informational presentation on October 11, 2017.
